WELCOME TO YOUR FANTASTIC NEW BEGINNING
Hello there
MY NAME IS MELISSA
LICENSED PROFESSIONAL COUNSELOR | EMDR & SOMATIC EXPERIENCING | MINDFULNESS & MEDITATION
Welcome, I’m so glad that you are here.
If you are just starting on your therapeutic journey, you are likely reading numerous websites and clinician bios. There is a lot of information out there! Pace yourself during this vital information-gathering stage. It is important to educate yourself on the modalities and specialties that your counselor uses in their work. That way you have an idea whether their counseling identity and techniques align with your therapeutic goals and needs. When deciding on a counselor, however, my best advice is not clinical: trust your knowing. You will know instinctively who you are meant to work with on this healing journey.
Keeping that advice in mind, browse through the following pages to get a feel for what working with me can be like. If you have questions about my work or concerns related to treatment, we can schedule a free, 15-minute consultation. During this conversation, we can confirm that my experience & training meet your treatment needs. I may also be able to refer you to another clinician from my network of trusted counselors and colleagues.

My mission
To empower you to live your best life by using evidence-based and holistic counseling tools—because counseling changes lives.

COUNSELING SESSIONS #1
Individual counseling sessions are the place to start the therapeutic journey. We begin with an intake session to discuss clinical, familial, relational, and developmental history. We also review any present symptoms and treatment goals. We begin by scheduling weekly appointments that later become biweekly or monthly maintenance sessions. My clinical focus is to meet you where you are based on your individualized treatment goals & needs. I collaborate with you every step of the way to ensure solid treatment outcomes.

EMDR SESSIONS #2
One of the most effective trauma tools available currently is EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing). Originally developed by Dr. Francine Shapiro to treat anxiety symptoms, EMDR processes are backed by years of research and fully evidence-based. Using a specific process allows new neural pathways to form. By releasing trauma stored in the body and mind, EMDR allows the brain to appropriately organize new and old information into new neural connections that support adaptive patterns and behaviors.
Please contact me for more information or to schedule a free, 15 minute consultation to see if EMDR is right for you.

GROUP COUNSELING #3
Coming soon! Contact me to be added to the waitlist.
Group counseling via telehealth services is one of my favorite counseling modalities. It provides a safe, structured curriculum that further invites growth and development. We meet weekly for 12 weeks. These structured sessions provide a balanced mix of dialogue and reflection. Groups are the perfect container to continue building emotional intelligence and resiliency skills. However, admittance into group work requires a certain baseline of individual wellness and may not be clinically appropriate for everyone. Please reach out for a personal consultation before signing up.

There are many reasons why people seek support through counseling services. Maybe you are feeling depressed after a recent move, relationship loss or employment change. Maybe it's feeling overwhelmed or stifled as the parent of young children, juggling work or staying at home. Maybe you are struggling to connect with a spouse or partner. Maybe past memories or hurts are resurfacing often. Maybe it's struggling to find motivation or feeling anxious when you leave your house.
Whatever the reason behind seeking counseling, support is right around the corner. By engaging the therapeutic process, people often gain clarity, purpose and forward-momentum in their lives. Identifying individual patterns and triggers provides greater personal insight. Most importantly, clients learn important life skills to maneuver through life's challenges with resiliency. As such, clients learn to take greater responsibility for themselves.
When it comes to the lenght of therapeutic treatment, appointments are initially scheduled weekly. Clients that enter the maintenance stage of counseling may later move to biweekly or monthly appointments.
Sessions typically last 50 minutes.

However, there are some exceptions to confidentiality designed with safety parameters in mind. Exceptions include the following:
Any suspected child, dependent adult or elder abuse. As mandated reporters, counselors are legally required to report any suspicions to the appropriate authorities immediately.
If a client threatens serious physical harm to another person. ___counselors are required by law to notify the police.
If a client discloses an intent to harm or kill themselves. During these circumstances, counselors must make every effort to work with the individual to ensure their safety. However, if the individual does not cooperate or their mental health status requires additional supports, counselors are ethically and legally required to take additional measures that ensure client safety.

We begin with the intake appointment. This initial session is where I make diagnostic assessments, take a more detailed patient history and discuss your goals for therapy. I encourage you to bring questions and take an active part in the process--I love psycho-education and want to empower you to start advocating for yourself from the start. It is up to you to determine if you can us developing a solid therapeutic relationship. I will also be assessing whether my training and experience make me a good fit for your clinical needs at this time.
When we decide to work together, you commit to working towards your personal growth and development. You commit to bravely looking inside of yourself to take greater and greater degrees of personal responsibility. I commit to bringing my professional expertise, my support, and my compassion. I also commit to challenging you to keep growing and reflecting back any stuck points, if needed.
Counseling provides long-lasting skills that increase emotional intelligence and life satisfaction--and it requires your active participation! I will remind you of that but, frankly, if I'm the right counselor for you, you won't need much reminding.
